At least four dead and ten injured in California shooting
At least four people were killed and ten others injured after gunfire erupted Saturday evening in Stockton, California, during the long Thanksgiving weekend. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, which oversees the city, confirmed that a total of 14 individuals had been struck by gunfire, adding that the attack may have been a targeted shooting.
Authorities said the incident occurred early Saturday evening along a major avenue in Stockton. Due to the ongoing investigation, officials described available information as extremely limited. Detectives are currently exploring multiple leads to determine what may have triggered the violence.
According to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Heather Brent, the victims include both minors and adults, all of whom were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The tragedy comes just days after another violent attack on the opposite side of the country, when a 29-year-old Afghan national—residing in the United States since 2021—fatally shot a member of the National Guard and severely injured another service member in Washington, D.C.
The United States continues to face a persistent crisis of gun violence, with more firearms in circulation than inhabitants. In 2024 alone, excluding suicides, over 16,700 people were killed by gunfire. The nation, increasingly polarized, remains on high alert amid fears of rising politically motivated violence, particularly following the high-profile assassination in September of conservative youth influencer Charlie Kirk.
