Aziz Akhannouch Leads Morocco’s Delegation at COP29 in Azerbaijan
Aziz Akhannouch, the Head of the Moroccan Government, is leading the country’s delegation at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), taking place in Azerbaijan. On Tuesday, Akhannouch was warmly welcomed at Baku’s Olympic Stadium by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
The Moroccan delegation includes Leila Benali, Minister of Energy and Sustainable Development, as well as Morocco's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mohamed Adil Embarch. Akhannouch took the opportunity to tour the pavilions of both Morocco and Azerbaijan, located within the Blue Zone of the Olympic Stadium. During the visit, he received briefings on the climate-related achievements of both nations, particularly in the field of renewable energy.
The COP29 summit, running from November 11 to 22, aims to assess global progress in mitigating climate change and to negotiate effective strategies for combating this urgent issue. A key focus of the conference will be on climate finance, as countries strive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and safeguard vulnerable communities from the worsening impacts of climate change.
