Barcelona narrowly beats Valladolid to stay ahead in La Liga
Barcelona had to work hard to secure a narrow 2–1 victory against Valladolid on Saturday during the 34th round of La Liga. The win, achieved away from home against the league’s bottom-placed team, allows the Catalans to maintain their lead over archrival Real Madrid.
With only four games remaining, Barcelona leads the standings with 79 points, seven ahead of Real Madrid, who will face Celta Vigo on Sunday afternoon before traveling to Barcelona next week for the second leg of the season’s highly anticipated “clasico.”
The victory was hard-fought, as Valladolid struck first with an early goal from Ivan Sanchez Aguayo in the 6th minute. However, Barcelona responded with goals from Raphinha in the 54th minute and Fermin Lopez in the 60th. This result now lets Barcelona fully focus on their UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg against Inter Milan on Tuesday, following a 3–3 draw in the first leg at home.
