Benjamin Netanyahu requests presidential pardon
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is facing corruption charges, has formally submitted a request for a presidential pardon to President Isaac Herzog, the presidency announced on Sunday.
In an official statement, the president’s office described the appeal as “an exceptional request with significant implications.” The communiqué added that President Herzog would review the file “with responsibility and seriousness” once all legal opinions and assessments have been received.
Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump sent a letter to President Herzog urging him to grant clemency to Netanyahu. The Israeli leader has repeatedly rejected any wrongdoing in the ongoing legal proceedings against him.
The request marks a notable development in Netanyahu’s long-running judicial saga, raising questions about its potential political and legal impact in Israel.
