Bilal El Khannouss named "Rising Star of the Year" for the second time
Moroccan international Bilal El Khannouss has been honored as the "Rising Star of the Year 2024" in the Belgian Pro League for the second time. The award was presented during the 71st Golden Shoe Gala held in Middelkerke, northwest Belgium.
El Khannouss, who played for Genk last season, transferred to English club Leicester in August. He follows in the footsteps of Belgian player Arthur Vermeeren, the previous year's winner.
At just 20 years old, El Khannouss joins an elite group of players who have won this accolade twice, alongside Youri Tielemans (2014, 2015) and Charles De Ketelaere (2020, 2021).
In addition to El Khannouss' recognition, Hans Vanaken was awarded the 71st Golden Shoe as the best player of the year in the Belgian league. Charles De Ketelaere, currently with Atalanta, was named the best Belgian player playing abroad.
Simon Mignolet earned the title of Goalkeeper of the Year, while Nicky Hayen, coach of Club Bruges, was honored as Coach of the Year after leading his team to their 19th league title.
