The Moroccan Secretariat of State in charge of Maritime Fisheries has announced the lifting of the ban on the harvesting and marketing of shellfish, including oysters, in the classified shellfish farming area of Lakraâ, located in the Boujdour region.

According to an official statement, the Technical Committee responsible for monitoring the marine environment and shellfish products reviewed the results of analyses carried out by the National Institute of Fisheries Research (INRH). The findings confirmed the stability of the marine environment and the complete purification of mussels in the Lakraâ area, under the Boujdour maritime district.

The decision follows the suspension initially imposed on August 28, 2025, after concerns over water quality.

Authorities reminded consumers to purchase only packaged products bearing official health identification labels and sold in authorized outlets. Shellfish sold in bulk or through unauthorized channels carry no health guarantee and may pose risks to public safety.
