Brazilian mother gives birth to twins with different fathers, stunning experts
In a rare and extraordinary medical phenomenon, a 19-year-old woman from Mineiros, Goiás, Brazil, has given birth to twins fathered by two different men. This occurrence, known as heteropaternal superfecundation, happens when two eggs from the same menstrual cycle are fertilized by sperm from separate men during distinct sexual encounters. The discovery came after the young mother decided to undergo routine DNA testing to confirm the paternity of her newborns. To her surprise, the results revealed that only one twin's genetic material matched her expected partner. Recalling another encounter on the same day, she arranged for the second man to be tested, which confirmed his paternity of the other child. Doctors explained that while the twins share the same maternal DNA, they developed in separate placentas, affirming the diagnosis of heteropaternal superfecundation.
