Building University Bridges between Morocco and Spain
Morocco and Spain are continuing to strengthen their ties, particularly in the higher education sector. Spain has emerged as one of the top destinations for Moroccan students seeking to pursue their studies abroad. To highlight the numerous opportunities offered by Spanish universities, the 8th edition of the "Studying in Spain" Expo will take place in four Moroccan cities in February 2024.
Organized jointly by the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE) and the Spanish Embassy in Morocco, the event will pull out all the stops to attract young Moroccans. The agenda includes information booths, meetings with institution representatives and alumni, with no fewer than 24 Spanish universities attending, a testament to the excitement generated.
"Morocco is the leading African country in terms of student mobility to Spain," notes Lorenzo Capellán de Toro, a Spanish educational advisor in Morocco. Out of nearly 3000 Moroccan students hosted in the Iberian Peninsula for the 2021-2022 academic year, many have found a preference for Spanish higher education. The success of previous editions, which drew over 7000 visitors, has led organizers to expand the expo for the first time to Fes, a city rich in culture, allowing Moroccans to envision themselves in the lecture halls of Grenada or Barcelona.
