Casablanca unveils 2026 edition of “10 KM International by WeCasablanca”
Casablanca has announced the launch of the 2026 edition of the “10 KM International by WeCasablanca,” set to take place on May 17. Organized by Casablanca Events & Animation, the event has quickly established itself as one of Africa’s premier road-running events, drawing thousands of participants annually.
A growing legacy
At a press conference in Casablanca, Mohamed Jouahri, Director General of Casablanca Events & Animation, confirmed that registration for the 2026 race is now open. He stated that only minor adjustments will be made to the course compared to the 2025 edition, which was held on September 28. The starting line will once again be located on Al Massira Al Khadra Boulevard, near the iconic Twin Center towers, with runners traversing some of the city’s most famous avenues.
Reflecting on the success of the 2025 race, Jouahri described it as “a triumph at every level,” noting the participation of over 12,000 runners from 48 countries. He praised the collaborative efforts of public authorities, private partners, and the sporting community in delivering an event that showcased Casablanca as a modern and dynamic city.
The 2025 race also marked a pivotal moment, as it was organized independently from the Casablanca International Marathon for the first time. Jouahri emphasized that the event has now solidified its reputation as a standalone competition, attracting elite athletes from Morocco and beyond.
Record-breaking performances
Mustapha Benslimane, the race’s technical director, highlighted the remarkable achievements of the 2025 edition, including groundbreaking athletic performances. He noted that, for the first time in African road-running history, a female athlete recorded a time under 30 minutes. Additionally, Moroccan runner Keltoum Bouasria broke the national Masters record with a time of 35 minutes, placing her fifth globally in her category.
Benslimane expressed optimism for the 2026 race, predicting even greater participation and stronger performances. Organizers anticipate over 15,000 runners, further cementing Casablanca’s reputation as a center of excellence for road running.
Promoting Casablanca through sports
Since its inaugural edition in 2017, the “10 KM International by WeCasablanca” has grown steadily, enhancing its technical and logistical standards. The event underscores Moroccan expertise in organizing world-class sporting events and reinforces Casablanca’s standing as a hub for urban sports.
The race is not just about athletic achievements; it also aims to promote Casablanca’s image as a global sports destination. By hosting such events, the city seeks to boost urban vitality, foster collective pride, and enhance its national and international visibility.
