Chelsea crowned club World Cup champions after dominant 3-0 win over PSG
Chelsea made history on Sunday by winning the inaugural edition of the revamped FIFA Club World Cup, defeating Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 3-0 in a commanding performance at the MetLife Stadium.
Cole Palmer was the hero of the night, scoring twice in quick succession (22nd and 30th minutes), before João Pedro sealed the result with a clinical finish in the 43rd minute. The English side’s aggressive pressing and swift transitions proved too much for the Champions League winners from Paris.
The win ends PSG’s hopes of achieving a historic five-trophy season. Despite an impressive run that included a stunning 4-0 semifinal victory over Real Madrid—where Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi played a key role—Luis Enrique’s team could not break Chelsea’s compact defense.
Speaking after the match, PSG head coach Luis Enrique admitted, “Chelsea played very well and deserved the trophy. Their high pressing caused us a lot of problems, and they capitalized with two quick goals. We need to review the match thoroughly.”
For Chelsea, this victory is a statement of intent on the global stage, and a major milestone under their current project. The London side now holds the title of Club World Cup champions for the first time in the new competition format.
