Chemsedine Talbi completes Sunderland move after stellar Club Brugge season
Sunderland has officially signed Moroccan winger Chemsedine Talbi from Club Brugge on a five-year deal, marking a significant step in the 20-year-old's burgeoning career. The newly promoted Premier League side secured the transfer for an initial €21 million, with potential add-ons of €3 million, according to the BBC.
A breakthrough talent joins the Premier League
Talbi's rise through the ranks at Club Brugge culminated in his promotion to the first team in early 2023. He featured in 44 matches across all competitions last season, scoring seven goals and delivering four assists. Among his standout moments was a stellar performance in the UEFA Champions League, where he scored twice against Atalanta, helping to eliminate the Italian side.
Expressing his excitement, Talbi said on Sunderland's official website: “I’m really excited to be here and grateful for the opportunity to play for this club. The Premier League is the biggest and best league in the world, so I’m looking forward to getting started. I know the fans will get behind me from the start, and I can’t wait to see them at the stadium.”
Sunderland’s vision attracts top talent
Sunderland’s sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman, highlighted the club’s ambition and appeal: “Our momentum and story are powerful, and I think players of Chemsedine’s calibre – who are in high demand – are excited by the prospect of playing for Sunderland AFC.”
Talbi will join Sunderland’s squad for pre-season preparations later this month as the team gears up for their return to the Premier League. Fans have greeted the signing with enthusiasm on social media, praising Talbi’s talents and expressing optimism about his impact on the team.
