CHINT strengthens Africa’s energy transformation with localized strategy

Chinese energy giant CHINT is intensifying its role in Africa’s energy transition by adopting a comprehensive localization strategy. This approach, encompassing renewable energy projects, grid infrastructure, and local manufacturing, reinforces the company’s commitment to driving sustainable energy solutions across the continent.

At the Africa Energy Forum in Cape Town, Tina Wu, deputy general manager for CHINT’s West Asia & Africa Business Headquarters, highlighted the company’s 20-year journey in Africa. Speaking to Morocco World News, Wu emphasized Africa’s strategic importance to CHINT’s global presence. “We see the continent as a crucial market for our development and aim to bring more localization here,” she stated.

Founded over four decades ago, CHINT has evolved from a low-voltage component manufacturer into a global energy solutions provider. Its portfolio spans renewable energy generation, battery storage, power transmission, and industrial power systems, with operations in over 140 countries.

Expanding footprint across Africa

CHINT’s African footprint includes operations in more than 30 countries, with three subsidiaries in Kenya, Egypt, and Nigeria, alongside offices in Algeria, Tunisia, and South Africa. By establishing manufacturing facilities in Egypt, Kenya, and Uganda, CHINT has not only localized production but also created jobs, fostering deeper integration with local economies.

Wu stressed the importance of aligning CHINT’s operations with local cultures, saying, “Our strategy is to become part of the social and cultural fabric, contributing meaningfully to local development.”

Key focus on North Africa

CHINT is especially active in North Africa, with operations in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Egypt. The company’s focus in Morocco includes grid modernization and renewable energy deployment, where it has collaborated on significant infrastructure projects. Wu noted that CHINT’s ability to provide “one-stop solutions” for power grids and renewable energies has earned the company widespread acceptance by local grids and key partners.

As African nations prioritize renewable energy adoption and grid modernization, CHINT’s localized strategy positions it as a critical partner in addressing the continent’s diverse energy challenges. By combining advanced technology with local expertise, the company delivers cost-effective, tailored solutions that meet Africa’s growing energy demands.
