Crime rates in Girona municipalities: The highest recorded crime rate in 2024
While crime rates in Spain have slightly decreased by 0.3% in the past year, some serious offenses have seen an uptick nationwide. According to the latest Crime Balance report from the Ministry of the Interior, based on 2024 data, intentional homicides and completed murders have increased by 4.5%. Sexual assaults with penetration have also risen by 6.7%.
Regarding conventional crime rates, a total of 41.0 crimes occurred per 1,000 inhabitants. The report further breaks down the crime rates by municipality, revealing notable figures in the Girona province.
The Municipality with the Highest Crime Rate in Girona
Girona stands out with the highest crime rate in the province, recording a total of 6,395 cases in 2024. It is followed by Figueres, with 3,561 cases, Lloret de Mar with 2,898, and Salt with 2,048. In terms of kidnappings, the region reported 14 cases, two of which occurred in Girona, though only the capital appears in the official report.
Drug trafficking in the province accounted for 541 cases in total. Lloret de Mar led with 84 drug-related crimes, followed by Figueres with 79. Girona recorded 39 cases, while Roses had the least, with only 3.
The report also highlights sexual freedom offenses, with 490 cases in Girona province. This category includes sexual assaults and penetration abuse, totaling 185 cases. While some municipalities recorded fewer incidents, such as Roses and Blanes (2 each), others reported higher numbers: Girona with 33 cases, Lloret de Mar with 24, and Figueres with 14.
