A tragic murder case in Croatia has sparked public outrage after authorities arrested a suspect with a serious criminal history. The incident occurred in the southern town of Drnis, where a 19-year-old pizza delivery driver was reportedly shot while attempting to deliver an order to the suspect’s residence.

The crime quickly triggered a large police operation across the region. According to investigators, officers arrested the 50-year-old suspect on Monday morning and discovered a firearm and a large knife in his possession at the time of the arrest.

The case has received significant national attention after police officials confirmed that the suspect had previously served a long prison sentence for the murder of a woman during the 1990s. Reports indicate that he spent around 15 years in prison before being released. Authorities also stated that the man had faced additional legal issues linked to illegal weapons possession after leaving prison.

The murder has reignited debate in Croatia about the justice system and the supervision of individuals with violent criminal backgrounds. Many citizens have questioned how a person with such a serious past was able to remain free despite repeated legal concerns.

Croatian Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic described the event as a “terrible tragedy” and acknowledged the public’s concerns regarding the suspect’s criminal history. However, officials emphasized that decisions concerning release and sentencing are handled by the judicial system rather than the police.

Following the incident, local residents and activists called for demonstrations outside the court in the nearby city of Zadar to express anger and demand stricter measures against repeat violent offenders. Authorities in Drnis also announced an official day of mourning in memory of the young victim.

The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare formal charges against the suspect.
