Cybersecurity has become a cornerstone of Morocco’s digital sovereignty and a key driver of economic growth, stated Abdeltif Loudyi, Morocco’s Minister Delegate for National Defense Administration, at the opening of the Regional Cyber Week in Rabat. Loudyi emphasized that investing in cybersecurity not only mitigates risks but also enhances the business climate, attracts investment, spurs consumption, and strengthens corporate competitiveness.

Cybersecurity and digital trust

Loudyi highlighted that digital trust plays a pivotal role in Morocco’s transition to a secure and sustainable digital economy. By fostering trust among citizens and businesses, cybersecurity fortifies public confidence in digital services and systems while enabling economic advancement.

Morocco’s strides in digital transformation

Morocco has made significant progress in digital transformation over recent years, as noted by Loudyi. Investments in digital infrastructure and the expansion of public digital services have improved administrative efficiency and provided easier access for businesses and citizens. These advancements showcase Morocco’s commitment to embracing technology as a tool for economic and social development.

Rising threats and regional vulnerabilities

Despite these achievements, growing cybersecurity threats remain a concern. Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah noted that the rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has amplified the sophistication of cyberattacks, making cybersecurity an indispensable element of economic resilience.

“Cybersecurity is not an option but an absolute necessity,” Fettah remarked, urging international cooperation, capacity-building, and solidarity to combat the evolving threat landscape.

Minister Delegate for Digital Transition Amal El Fellah Seghrouchni further underscored the critical nature of cybersecurity in restoring public trust, safeguarding sovereignty, and ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of public services. She referenced a 236% surge in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks in the MENA region during the second quarter of 2025 to illustrate the scale of vulnerabilities in the region.

El Fellah Seghrouchni emphasized that a trusted digital environment signals modernity, responsibility, and innovation while enhancing Morocco’s institutional credibility and attractiveness as a hub for talent and partnerships.

Regional Cyber Week

The Regional Cyber Week, held from September 15 to 19 in Rabat, is organized by Morocco’s General Directorate of Information Systems Security (DGSSI) in collaboration with the Arab Regional Cybersecurity Center. This year’s event, themed “The Future of Cybersecurity: Digital Sovereignty for Sustainable Economic Development,” brings together government officials, industry experts, and private sector leaders from Morocco, the Arab world, and Africa. Participants are exploring strategies to enhance cyber-resilience in an era defined by rapid technological advancements.
