A series of cross-border strikes between Ukraine and Russia has resulted in multiple civilian casualties, highlighting the continued intensity of the conflict and the ongoing vulnerability of border regions on both sides.

In Russia’s Briansk region, local authorities reported that artillery fire in a border town caused the deaths of two civilians and left two others injured. Officials described the incident as part of a broader pattern of attacks affecting areas close to the frontier, where military activity has remained frequent since the start of the conflict.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities reported renewed drone attacks on several regions, including the northeast and south of the country. In the Sumy region, a strike killed one woman and seriously injured another, while damaging a multi-storey non-residential building. Additional injuries were reported in the Mykolaiv region following further drone activity.

The exchange of strikes reflects the continuing escalation of hostilities more than four years after the start of the full-scale war. Both sides have regularly accused each other of targeting civilian areas, while maintaining that their actions are aimed at military objectives.

Air defense systems remain active across the region, with Russian authorities reporting the interception of drones approaching Moscow during the same period. These incidents underscore the expanding geographic reach of the conflict, which increasingly affects areas far beyond the immediate front lines.

Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned of the growing toll on civilian populations, particularly in border regions where infrastructure damage and security risks are more frequent. The repeated strikes have disrupted daily life, displaced residents, and placed additional pressure on emergency services.

Despite ongoing international calls for de-escalation, both Ukraine and Russia continue to conduct operations aimed at weakening each other’s military capabilities. The situation remains highly volatile, with little indication of an immediate reduction in hostilities.

As the conflict continues, cross-border attacks are expected to remain a major source of instability, further complicating efforts to achieve a lasting resolution.
