A devastating residential fire in the town of Neuves-Maisons, in northeastern France, left five people dead and one injured early Sunday morning. According to emergency services, firefighters were alerted shortly after 3:15 a.m. when flames broke out in a three-story building that also housed a shop on the ground floor.

Officials confirmed that the victims include a 59-year-old man, a 60-year-old woman, a 20-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old teenager. A fifth individual, initially reported as critically injured, later succumbed to their injuries. Around 70 firefighters and thirty vehicles were deployed to contain the blaze, which they managed to bring under control relatively quickly.
