At least nine people were killed and dozens more injured following a Russian missile strike on Ukraine’s southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region on Tuesday. The attack, carried out in two waves, struck the regional capital of Dnipro, killing seven people, according to governor Serhiy Lysak. The explosions shattered the windows of a passenger train, injuring many travelers with flying glass.

Nearly 70 individuals were hurt in the incident, including 10 children. Authorities warned that the number of casualties might increase. Two more people were killed in Samar, a town located roughly 10 kilometers from Dnipro, according to the state emergency services.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged Kyiv’s Western allies to respond decisively. As NATO leaders meet in The Hague, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continues to seek greater military assistance to counter Russia’s full-scale invasion, ongoing since 2022.

Sybiha emphasized that the credibility of allied nations depends on increasing pressure on Moscow. He also reported that schools, kindergartens, and a hospital in Dnipro had sustained damage. No specific details were given regarding the destruction in Samar.

Russia has intensified its aerial bombardments across Ukraine in recent weeks, especially targeting Kyiv. A previous missile attack on the capital on June 17 left 28 people dead, marking the deadliest such incident in 2024.
