The death toll from Thursday’s early morning Russian strikes on Kyiv has climbed to 28, with 159 people reported injured, Ukrainian emergency services announced Friday. The increase follows the discovery of additional bodies beneath the rubble of residential buildings destroyed by drone and missile attacks.

These bombardments mark one of the deadliest assaults on the Ukrainian capital since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. Rescue teams continued their search efforts throughout Friday, a declared day of mourning in Kyiv.

The attacks did not stop there. Overnight, further strikes targeted other Ukrainian regions. A 63-year-old man was killed in Vesselianka, Zaporijjia region, when a shell struck a residential home, according to regional governor Ivan Fedorov. Four others were injured. In southern Ukraine, a woman was reported killed in Kherson.

Following the Thursday attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned what he described as another "deadly spectacle" orchestrated by Moscow and reiterated calls for "regime change" in Russia.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump also reacted strongly, calling the Russian offensive “disgusting.” He announced sanctions against Russia, saying, “I don’t know if it will change anything, but we’re going to do it.” He gave Russian President Vladimir Putin ten days starting Tuesday to halt what he called Europe’s worst conflict since World War II, which has claimed tens of thousands—possibly hundreds of thousands—of lives on both sides.
