Denmark bans civilian drones during EU summit
Copenhagen – Denmark announced on Sunday that it will ban all civilian drone flights across its territory next week to ensure security during the European summit set to take place in Copenhagen. The meeting will bring together European heads of government from Monday to Friday.
“The safety of the summit is a top priority. Therefore, from Monday to Friday, Danish airspace will be closed to all civilian drones,” the Ministry of Transport said in a statement.
The announcement comes amid rising concern over unidentified drone activity in Danish airspace. Since September 22, drones have repeatedly flown over sensitive areas, prompting temporary closures of several airports. Authorities have suggested that Russia could be behind some of these incidents.
The Danish army confirmed that drones were once again observed over military sites overnight for the second consecutive day. “The armed forces confirm that drones were detected over several of their sites during the night. Multiple resources were deployed,” the military said, without providing further details about the response or the origin of the drones.
