Denmark summons U.S. diplomat over Greenland interference allegations
Denmark has summoned the U.S. chargé d’affaires following reports by the public television about alleged “interference attempts” in Greenland, an autonomous territory of the Scandinavian kingdom sought after by the Trump administration, Danish authorities announced Wednesday.
“Any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the kingdom is, of course, unacceptable,” said Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen in a statement to AFP. “I have asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the U.S. chargé d’affaires for a meeting at the ministry,” he added.
The incident highlights growing tensions as Greenland’s strategic location and natural resources attract international attention. Denmark maintains that its sovereignty over Greenland remains intact and emphasizes diplomatic channels to address concerns.
