Doha to host Arab-Islamic summit after Israeli attack on Qatar
Doha will host an emergency Arab-Islamic summit on Sunday and Monday, September 14 and 15, to address the recent Israeli airstrike on Qatari territory, according to the Qatar News Agency (QNA). The summit aims to coordinate a unified regional response to what has been widely condemned as a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law.
Unified regional response
The meeting is set to involve broad Arab and Islamic participation, with discussions focused on countering what Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani described as “Israeli bullying.” Speaking to CNN, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that Qatar will not impose its stance on its regional partners but seeks a collective and effective response.
Sheikh Mohammed also rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s threats toward the region, stating, “Netanyahu is threatening countries that pose no threat to him. A real and capable response is being prepared with our partners to stop this aggression.”
He further criticized Netanyahu for violating international law and called for his accountability, noting that the Israeli leader is already facing charges at the International Criminal Court.
International reactions
The Israeli airstrike, reportedly targeting Hamas leadership in Doha, has drawn widespread condemnation across the Arab world and beyond. Many have decried the attack as an unprecedented breach of Qatar’s sovereignty and a blow to its role as a mediator in the Gaza conflict.
While expressing gratitude for U.S. President Donald Trump’s strong condemnation of the attack, Sheikh Mohammed urged for practical measures to follow. “Words are not enough. We need actions,” he said.
Qatar remains committed to its mediating role in the Gaza crisis, with Sheikh Mohammed declaring, “Mediation is an integral part of Qatar’s identity, and nothing will prevent us from continuing this role in regional matters.”
Sovereignty under threat
The assault, which targeted residential headquarters of Hamas leaders in Doha, was widely criticized as a direct violation of international laws and conventions. Qatar’s leadership has reiterated its resolve to support Palestinian causes and to resist any infringement on its sovereignty.
The upcoming summit is expected to send a strong message of unity and resistance against unilateral aggression while reinforcing Qatar’s position as a key player in regional diplomacy.
