Drone show in China turns into firestorm, Sparks panic
A drone display in Liuyang, southeastern China, turned chaotic on October 2 when hundreds of malfunctioning drones prematurely released their fireworks payloads. The event, held to celebrate China’s National Day, quickly became a scene of fireballs falling from the sky, igniting small fires and panicking the crowd.
Videos circulated on social media show flaming projectiles hitting structures built for the celebration. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported despite the dramatic spectacle.
Liuyang, long considered the world capital of fireworks, has a history of pyrotechnic craftsmanship spanning roughly 1,500 years. The city produces an estimated 60% of the world’s fireworks, highlighting the scale and importance of the event that went awry.
