Egypt joins race to host the Spanish Super Cup alongside four international bidders

Egypt has entered the competition to host the 2025–2026 Spanish Super Cup, joining several countries seeking the rights to stage one of Spain's most prestigious football events. The tournament, which features four of the country's top clubs, is scheduled to take place early next year.

Since 2020, the Spanish Super Cup has been organized outside Spain under a four-team format that brings together the La Liga champion, the league runner-up, the Copa del Rey winner, and the cup runner-up. The competition consists of two semifinals followed by a championship final.

According to Spanish media reports, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has not yet selected the host nation for the upcoming edition. Saudi Arabia, which previously hosted the tournament, is not expected to stage the event this season due to scheduling conflicts with the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, prompting several countries to submit new bids.

Egypt is competing with Qatar, the United States, China, and Mexico, all of which have expressed interest in welcoming the tournament. Football authorities in Cairo have reportedly contacted the Spanish federation to explore the possibility of organizing the event, highlighting Egypt's strong football culture and the popularity of Spanish clubs among local supporters.

If selected, Egypt would host four of Spain's biggest clubs. Barcelona, the reigning La Liga champion, is expected to face Atlético Madrid in one semifinal, while Real Madrid will meet Real Sociedad, the Copa del Rey winner, in the other.

The Spanish federation is expected to announce the host country before the end of September 2026, allowing organizers sufficient time to prepare for the tournament, which is likely to be held in either January or February.

Hosting the Spanish Super Cup would further strengthen Egypt's profile as a destination for major international sporting events. In recent years, the country has invested heavily in sports infrastructure and successfully organized several continental and global competitions, reinforcing its ambition to become a leading hub for international football in the region.

The final decision will depend on logistical considerations, commercial agreements, and the federation's evaluation of each candidate's ability to deliver a world-class event for clubs, players, and supporters.
