Egypt says Hamas has “no role” in Gaza’s future
Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, declared on Wednesday that Hamas will have “no role” in shaping the future of Gaza. His remarks come as Cairo continues to mediate in the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement.
“There is full agreement among us, as Arabs and Muslims, and even within Hamas members themselves. They understand very well that they have no role for tomorrow, and this is a fact,” Abdelatty stated during a conference in Paris.
The comments were made as Hamas is still expected to deliver its response to a U.S.-backed plan, presented by former president Donald Trump, aimed at ending the conflict. Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes continue to pound Gaza, with thick smoke seen rising from several neighborhoods on Wednesday.
