Electric scooter rider fatally hit by motorcycle south of Lyon
A 23-year-old man was killed on Thursday night in Givors, south of Lyon, after being struck by a motorcycle while riding his electric scooter, according to local authorities.
The accident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Rue Jacques Duclos, in the Vernes district. Despite the swift arrival of firefighters, the young man died from his injuries at the scene.
According to a source close to the investigation, the motorcyclist fled after the collision and has not been identified. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
This tragedy adds to a worrying rise in fatal road accidents across the Rhône department. Authorities had already raised the alarm earlier this year, noting that the number of deaths on local roads had doubled compared to last year, even though the number of accidents and injuries has remained relatively stable.
Experts suggest that the increased violence of collisions could explain this surge in fatalities, particularly among electric scooter users, who have paid a heavy price in recent months.
