Through OCP Group’s Al Moutmir initiative, ElleMoutmir is transforming Morocco’s rural landscape by positioning women at the center of agricultural sustainability and inclusive growth. The program equips women with essential agronomic, digital, and entrepreneurial skills, empowering them to drive change within their communities while advancing national sustainability goals.

Empowering women for resilient farming

Since its launch in 2018, Al Moutmir has promoted inclusive agricultural development using science-based, locally adapted solutions. More than 40,000 farmers have benefited directly, and over 540,000 have been reached through digital platforms offering soil health assessments, tailored fertilization, sustainable mechanization, and improved market access.

Within this ecosystem, ElleMoutmir targets women as pivotal agents of transformation. By providing access to training and modern tools, it enables women farmers, agricultural retailers, cooperatives, and young leaders to enhance productivity, safeguard resources, and strengthen community resilience.

Building leadership and closing gaps

ElleMoutmir operates under the belief that rural progress is impossible without women’s active participation. Its multidisciplinary field teams work directly with beneficiaries, ensuring continuous support and knowledge transfer.

Participants are trained to implement climate-smart agricultural practices that improve yields and promote soil carbon sequestration, directly contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals of Zero Hunger and Climate Action.

Digital inclusion and innovation

The program bridges the digital divide in rural Morocco through tailored digital tools. Applications such as @tmar, a mobile advisory app, Minassat Attakwin 3an Bou3d, a distance-learning portal, and T@swiq, an online marketplace, offer real-time agricultural advice, weather updates, and direct connections between producers and buyers.

Meanwhile, Agripedia, an online encyclopedia, provides visual guides and best-practice resources, helping women access vital agricultural knowledge.

In 2024, Al Moutmir launched Communities of Practice, interactive networks for women farmers to share insights and collaborate on sustainable solutions. One notable initiative, led by Ihassan Hamoudan, president of the Biosalim cooperative, involved sharing sorghum seeds and cultivation methods across six Moroccan regions, illustrating how peer learning fosters collective progress.

Women’s cooperatives driving sustainable agriculture

In celebration of the International Day of Rural Women, ElleMoutmir will organize an event at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Benguerir, under the theme “Women-Led Agricultural Cooperatives: Collective Power for an Inclusive and Sustainable Agriculture in Africa.” The gathering will unite researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and cooperatives to explore strategies for advancing inclusivity across Africa’s agricultural sectors.

To date, ElleMoutmir has supported more than 400 women’s cooperatives, 1,000 female farmers, 26 women retailers, and 200 young leaders, connecting them to markets and opportunities through T@swiq and other networking platforms. The Al Moutmir Trophies will also honor women who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation in agriculture.

By merging science, technology, and community leadership, ElleMoutmir embodies Morocco’s vision for a more inclusive agricultural future. As the country confronts the twin challenges of climate change and food security, the initiative highlights how empowering women can sustain both the land and the communities that depend on it.
