Elon Musk Criticizes UK Politician Over Activist Controversy
Elon Musk has withdrawn his support for UK political figure Nigel Farage after a disagreement over the tech magnate’s comments regarding the release of a jailed far-right activist.
Musk suggested on his social media platform that Reform UK, the political party led by Farage, needs new leadership. His remarks came after Farage distanced himself from Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, also known as Tommy Robinson, an anti-Islam campaigner serving an 18-month prison sentence for contempt of court.
Musk inaccurately claimed that Yaxley-Lennon was imprisoned for exposing the truth about a high-profile child grooming scandal in the UK. However, the activist was sentenced after violating a court order prohibiting him from repeating false accusations against a Syrian refugee schoolboy, who had previously won a libel case against him.
When asked about Musk's statements, Farage clarified that Yaxley-Lennon was jailed for contempt of court, not for speaking out against grooming gangs. Farage emphasized that his party aims to win the next general election and distanced himself from the activist’s actions.
This incident follows Musk’s recent endorsement of Reform UK, a party founded by Farage in 2018, as the only group capable of addressing Britain’s challenges. Despite reports of negotiations about potential financial contributions from Musk, Farage maintained his position, asserting he would not compromise his principles.
Musk has increasingly engaged in global political matters. Recently, he criticized UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for alleged inaction on grooming gangs during his tenure as director of public prosecutions. Musk also voiced support for other controversial political movements, further stirring debate.
