Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Monday that Hamas remains determined to uphold the truce in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of Muslim nations taking the lead in rebuilding the war-torn Palestinian territory.

“It appears that Hamas is committed to maintaining the agreement,” Erdogan said during his address to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) delegates at the COMCEC economic summit in Istanbul.

His comments came as Türkiye prepared to host a meeting of foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Pakistan, and Indonesia. The ministers are set to discuss efforts to reconstruct Gaza and ensure the stability of the October 10 ceasefire, which remains fragile.

The talks were scheduled to begin at 1100 GMT at an Istanbul hotel, followed by a press conference later in the day.

“At this stage, we must intensify humanitarian assistance to Gaza’s people and then begin rebuilding,” Erdogan said. “However, the Israeli government is doing everything possible to obstruct these efforts.”

He also urged immediate implementation of the reconstruction plan proposed jointly by the Arab League and the OICin March, aimed at restoring vital infrastructure and housing in Gaza.

“It is essential that the OIC and COMCEC play a leading role in Gaza’s recovery,” Erdogan concluded.
