A European cloud industry association has called on regulators to take temporary action against Broadcom over recent changes to its VMware partner program.

The group, Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers in Europe (CISPE), is urging the European Commission to intervene and prevent the termination of VMware’s Cloud Service Provider program across Europe. According to CISPE, the decision could significantly impact local cloud providers and limit competition in the market.

CISPE, which represents dozens of cloud service providers and includes major technology firms such as Microsoft and Amazon as associate members, has previously challenged the EU’s approval of Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware. The group argues that the long-term effects of the deal were not fully assessed.

The dispute escalated after Broadcom restructured its partner ecosystem, reducing the number of authorized providers in Europe. CISPE claims that this move excludes many regional companies from offering VMware-based services, potentially harming both businesses and customers.

The case highlights growing concerns over competition and market access in the rapidly evolving cloud computing sector, as regulators face increasing pressure to ensure a fair and competitive digital economy.
