FBI searches John Bolton’s residence in national security probe
The FBI raided the home of John Bolton, former national security adviser to Donald Trump, on Friday as part of a national security investigation. According to an AFP journalist on the scene, federal agents entered Bolton’s residence in a Washington suburb early in the morning and left a few hours later.
A seasoned diplomat and staunch conservative, Bolton previously served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under George W. Bush before joining Donald Trump’s White House in 2018 as national security adviser. His tenure was short-lived, marked by growing clashes with the president. Since leaving office, Bolton has become one of Trump’s most outspoken critics, describing him as “unfit to hold power.”
Authorities have not released details on the specific reasons behind the search or the type of material sought. However, the fact that the raid is tied to national security suggests the investigation involves sensitive information.
The operation adds to the string of legal troubles facing figures close to Donald Trump as the former president seeks to maintain his political influence. For Bolton, known internationally as a foreign policy hawk, the raid underscores how the ripple effects of Trump’s presidency continue to entangle former allies and deepen political divisions in Washington.
