Swiss authorities have begun identifying the first victims of the deadly fire that broke out during New Year’s celebrations in a crowded bar in the ski resort of Crans-Montana. The tragedy, which occurred overnight, claimed dozens of lives and left many others injured, prompting a large-scale emergency response and an ongoing investigation.

Police in the canton of Valais confirmed that several young victims have now been formally identified and their bodies returned to their families. Identification efforts remain complex and are expected to continue for several days due to the condition of the victims and the international nature of those affected.

The incident has deeply shaken the Alpine resort, where residents and visitors have gathered near the site to pay tribute with flowers and candles. Authorities from multiple countries are cooperating as injured individuals have been transferred to specialized hospitals across Europe.

Investigators are focusing on safety conditions inside the venue, including the materials used in the interior and the circumstances that may have led to the rapid spread of the fire. Officials have stressed that determining responsibility will require time and thorough analysis.

As Switzerland mourns the victims, the tragedy has reignited discussions about fire safety standards in nightlife venues, particularly during large public celebrations.
