Four dead and eight injured in Michigan church shooting
At least four people were killed and eight others wounded on Sunday during a mass shooting in the state of Michigan, according to the latest update from local authorities. An earlier report had mentioned one dead and nine injured.
The attack occurred in a Mormon church in the city of Grand Blanc, in eastern Michigan. Police said the gunman drove his vehicle into the church entrance before opening fire with an assault rifle. The shooter was later killed.
Authorities added that the suspect also set a fire inside the building, which quickly spread into a major blaze. Police have not ruled out the possibility of discovering additional victims in the burned structure.
Mass shootings remain a persistent tragedy in the United States, where the constitutional right to bear arms continues to fuel debate over public safety and gun control.
