Four killed in Tribal clashes in Baghdad
Baghdad, September 7, 2025 – Four people, including two police officers, were killed on Saturday evening in Baghdad during tribal clashes, the Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday.
According to the ministry, two police officers were killed and five others injured when law enforcement intervened to stop a "tribal dispute" in the Saada neighborhood. Police opened fire after being targeted by those who instigated the confrontation, killing two people and wounding five others. Six individuals were arrested.
The clashes reportedly involved rival tribes. While the ministry did not specify the cause of the dispute, tribal confrontations are common in Iraq, a country with widespread weapons and deeply rooted tribal traditions. Iraq continues to grapple with the legacy of decades of violence following the 2003 U.S. invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein’s regime.
