Fouzi Lekjaa says 2030 FIFA World Cup is a strategic national project for Morocco

Morocco is stepping up preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) President Fouzi Lekjaa describing the tournament as a strategic national project aligned with the long-term vision of King Mohammed VI.

Speaking during a meeting of the federation's executive committee, Lekjaa emphasized that hosting the global football tournament requires early planning, strong institutional coordination, and the collective commitment of all stakeholders involved in the country's sporting development.

Morocco will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, marking the first time the Kingdom will take part in organizing football's biggest international event. The tournament is expected to accelerate investments in sports infrastructure, transportation, hospitality, and digital services while strengthening Morocco's international profile.

Lekjaa stressed that preparations must extend beyond stadium construction to include organizational excellence, operational readiness, and the modernization of football institutions across the country. He encouraged regional football leagues and sports organizations to improve governance and adopt higher professional standards in anticipation of the tournament.

According to the federation, the Morocco 2030 Foundation will oversee the country's World Cup preparations in partnership with the FRMF, ensuring close coordination between national institutions responsible for delivering the event successfully.

Officials believe the tournament represents more than a sporting competition. It is viewed as a long-term development project capable of generating economic opportunities, boosting tourism, improving infrastructure, and promoting Morocco as a major destination for international events.

Following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, global attention will gradually shift toward the three host nations of the 2030 edition. Moroccan authorities therefore intend to maintain steady progress on preparation projects while working closely with FIFA and their Portuguese and Spanish partners.

As preparations continue, Morocco aims to deliver a tournament that meets international standards while leaving a lasting legacy for football development, youth participation, and sustainable economic growth well beyond 2030.
