France seizes 600 kg of cannabis in the Basque Country
French authorities intercepted two vehicles transporting 600 kilograms of cannabis resin in Biarritz, Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Five individuals have been placed in pre-trial detention, according to the Béthune prosecutor’s office.
Three of the vehicle occupants—two Spanish nationals and one French—were stopped by investigators from the French Anti-Drug Office (OFAST) in Versailles while heading toward Pas-de-Calais. The investigation revealed significant drug imports from Spain into the Béthune judicial district.
Searches also led to the seizure of around €20,000 in cash. The suspects, three of whom were already known to justice, are awaiting delayed court appearances scheduled for October 23.
The operation follows recent large seizures, including 772 kg of cocaine on the A63 highway near Anglet and 608 kg of cannabis resin in the Vienne department, highlighting the ongoing fight against cross-border drug trafficking in France.
