France: Water-bomber helicopter crashes into pond in Brittany
Brittany, France, August 25, 2025 — A water-bomber helicopter crashed into a pond on Sunday evening while fighting a fire threatening a home in Finistère, northwestern France, the local prefecture reported on Monday.
The helicopter, part of the departmental fire and rescue service of Finistère, suffered a flight accident. Fortunately, there were no casualties, according to authorities. The aircraft was engaged in extinguishing a fire in the Rosporden area.
Three people received medical and psychological support following the incident: the pilot, the onboard officer, and a witness, the mechanic of the company operating the helicopter, who was near the pond. All three were released from the hospital the same evening.
The prefecture confirmed that firefighting operations would continue with a replacement helicopter deployed on Monday, ensuring that the mission to protect homes and property is uninterrupted.
