FRMF president fouzi lekjaa must wait until september for fourth term bid
The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation will have to wait until September before he can officially run for a fourth term at the head of the institution. His current third mandate is reaching its end, but the electoral process has not yet been opened, delaying any formal candidacy.
The federation held its ordinary and extraordinary general assembly on June 5 at the Mohammed VI Football Complex. The meeting marked the conclusion of the outgoing mandate but did not include any presidential election. Instead, delegates focused on institutional, administrative, and statutory matters linked to the functioning of the federation.
Discussions during the assembly centered on proposed amendments to the federation’s statutes and the review of moral and financial reports. These steps form part of the internal governance cycle that precedes any leadership vote, which is expected to take place later in the year.
Despite the delay, the incumbent remains widely viewed as the leading candidate to continue in office. His growing influence within continental and international football structures, including roles within African and global governing bodies, continues to strengthen his position. Current legal frameworks also allow certain exceptions linked to strategic responsibilities at international level or national interest considerations.
