Morocco’s youth-led movement, GenZ212, has reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of “awareness, unity, and dignity” after several Amazigh members announced a temporary freeze in their participation. The move comes amid weeks of nationwide demonstrations demanding reforms in education, healthcare, and governance.

Reports indicate that the departing members criticized the movement for deviating from its foundational principles and democratic ethos. Originally, GenZ212 sought to unite Morocco’s Generation Z around shared goals, including better public services and stronger anti-corruption measures.

In response, the movement issued a statement expressing pride in the growing awareness of Morocco’s younger generation, emphasizing that “true reform begins with the people and for the people.” GenZ212 described the current period as a pivotal moment, suggesting that Morocco now stands “at the threshold of a new phase of progress,” driven by youth consciousness and unity around social justice and comprehensive reform.

The movement also voiced concern over what it described as “suspicious attempts to sow division and ignite identity-based tensions” among Moroccans. It warned that such rhetoric threatens to fragment a country historically bound by shared struggles and collective destiny.

Invoking Morocco’s long legacy of unity and resistance, GenZ212 highlighted that “the flag raised against colonialism was not that of one group or region, but of a unified Morocco, land, people, and future.”

Concluding with a call to action, the movement urged Moroccans to reject divisive narratives and collaborate toward an inclusive, equitable future.
