German court orders far-right AfD party to leave its headquarters
A Berlin regional court has ruled that the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party must vacate its national headquarters in 2026, following a legal dispute with the building’s owner. The landlord, an Austrian company, argued that the party had violated the terms of its lease during a February 2025 election night celebration, when the AfD marked its record results in the national elections.
The court sided with the owner, granting the eviction request. The decision comes as the AfD, now the country’s main opposition force, faces growing scrutiny over its political activities and internal controversies.
The ruling is another setback for the AfD, which has tried to consolidate its presence on the German political scene while facing criticism for its extremist positions and investigations into its financing and links with radical movements.
