Greece: Parliament approves workday of up to 13 hours
After two days of heated debates, the Greek Parliament approved a bill allowing workdays of up to 13 hours. Trade unions and left-wing parties denounce the measure as retrograde and dangerous for workers’ rights.
The bill, passed by a parliamentary majority on Thursday, permits employees to work up to 13 hours per day for a single employer on a limited number of days per year, in exchange for additional pay. The legislation, introduced by the conservative government, has been criticized as a return to a “true Middle Ages of work.”
