Groundbreaking Lung Cancer Vaccine Enters Global Clinical Trials
In a significant development for oncology, an innovative vaccine targeting lung cancer has begun international clinical trials across seven countries. Lung cancer claims nearly 2 million lives annually, making it the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The BNT116 vaccine, developed by BioNTech, aims to change this grim statistic by harnessing the power of messenger RNA (mRNA) technology, which gained prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Unlike traditional preventive vaccines, BNT116 functions as a personalized immunotherapy. The study aims to recruit 130 lung cancer patients to evaluate the vaccine's efficacy.
