Austria’s Hirschmann Automotive has officially opened a new factory in Oujda Technopole, located in Morocco’s Oriental region. The facility, spanning 22,200 square meters, is part of the “Cleantech” industrial acceleration zone and represents an investment of MAD 180 million. This marks the company’s second site in the country, complementing its existing factory in Kenitra.

The new facility is expected to generate around 600 direct jobs by the end of 2026, contributing to the economic development of both Hirschmann Automotive Morocco and the Oriental region.

The inauguration was attended by prominent officials, including Khatib El Hebil, Wali of the Oriental region and governor of the Oujda-Angad prefecture, Mohamed Bouarourou, president of the Oriental Regional Council, and Mohamed Mbarki, Director of the Oriental Development Agency. During the event, El Hebil highlighted the growing investor confidence in Oujda, describing the city as a burgeoning hub for industrial, logistical, and technological development.

Morocco’s automotive sector continues to thrive, producing over one million cars annually with plans to increase capacity to 1.45 million and eventually two million. The country is also positioning itself as a leader in electric vehicle production, aiming to manufacture 107,000 electric vehicles by the end of 2025. Minister of Industry Ryad Mezzour, in an interview with Bloomberg, emphasized Morocco’s unique position as the only alternative to China in the region capable of covering the entire battery value chain, from raw materials to finished vehicles.

The opening of the new Hirschmann Automotive factory reinforces Morocco’s strategic role in the global automotive supply chain while accelerating industrial growth in its less-developed regions.
