Iran has executed three men convicted of armed robbery, including several attacks in the capital Tehran, the judiciary’s news agency Mizan Online reported on Wednesday.

The country, which enforces the death penalty for a wide range of crimes, ranks second in the world after China in the number of executions carried out, according to human rights organizations such as Amnesty International.

“The death sentence against three armed robbers who committed robberies in Tehran and other cities across the country was carried out on Wednesday morning,” Mizan stated.

Judicial authorities said the men were found guilty of “moharebeh” (waging war against God) and had committed 14 robberies in April 2024. The executions were carried out by hanging, according to the same source.

Earlier this month, Iran’s judiciary announced the execution of six members of a group convicted of carrying out “terrorist” attacks in the southern province of Khuzestan.
