Iranian authorities announced on Saturday that security forces killed six alleged members of a “terrorist” group said to be connected to Israel during an operation in the country’s southeast.

According to the state news agency IRNA, the clashes occurred in the Sistan-Baluchestan province, a volatile region bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan. Two other suspects were detained, while two Iranian intelligence officers and a police officer were injured in the operation.

The intelligence services claimed the group was planning an attack on a “vital center in the east of the country.” Authorities also reported that the operational cell consisted of seven non-Iranian fighters, though their nationality was not specified.

Sistan-Baluchestan has long been plagued by violence involving drug traffickers, Sunni extremist groups, and Baluch minority separatists. The province frequently sees deadly ambushes against Iranian police and members of the Revolutionary Guards.

Tensions between Iran and Israel remain high. Just two months ago, both countries engaged in a 12-day conflict triggered by an Israeli strike on Iranian territory, resulting in hundreds of deaths and targeted attacks on military and nuclear facilities.
