Israel lifts State of emergency for communities near Gaza
Israel has lifted the state of emergency for communities bordering the Gaza Strip for the first time since Hamas’s October 2023 attack, Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Monday.
“I have decided to adopt the (Israeli military’s) recommendation and to lift, for the first time since October 7, the special state on the home front,” said a statement from Katz’s office.
According to the Defense Ministry, the decision reflects a new security reality in southern Israel, where a ceasefire that began on October 10 continues to hold with relative stability.
The lifting of the emergency status marks a significant step toward normalcy for residents who had lived under heightened alert for nearly two years.
