Israeli airstrikes violate truce, killing nine Palestinians in Gaza
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have reportedly carried out airstrikes in Gaza, killing at least nine Palestinians between Monday night and Tuesday morning. The strikes, which occurred despite a ceasefire announced last week, have further exacerbated an already dire humanitarian crisis in the region.
According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, seven individuals lost their lives in airstrikes on Tuesday, while two others succumbed to injuries sustained in earlier attacks. The victims were transferred to two local hospitals for identification and post-mortem procedures.
Rescue teams in Gaza have uncovered over 250 bodies since the ceasefire took effect last Friday. Many of these were found buried under rubble in the streets, underscoring the scale of destruction caused by the ongoing conflict. However, efforts to recover survivors or bodies have been hampered by a severe shortage of heavy equipment. More than 10,000 people remain trapped under debris as rescue crews struggle to cope with the overwhelming need for assistance.
Since the escalation of violence began in October 2023, the death toll in Gaza has reached a staggering 67,913, with over 170,000 people injured. The international community has expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian catastrophe, with world leaders convening in Egypt to discuss the crisis and pledge support for Gaza’s reconstruction. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has estimated that rebuilding the war-torn enclave will cost approximately $70 billion.
Despite these efforts, conditions in Gaza continue to deteriorate. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reported that Israel has imposed severe restrictions on humanitarian aid, barring the entry of essential supplies such as food, hygiene kits, and medicine. “We have enough food for the entire population for three months waiting in Egypt and Jordan,” the UN agency stated on social media platform X, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
The international community has widely condemned Israel’s blockade and military operations in Gaza, describing them as genocidal and inhumane. Yet, the region remains gripped by violence and suffering, as calls for accountability and a lasting resolution grow louder.
