Italian President warns of ‘Dramatic Consequences’ without unified european defense
Italian President Sergio Mattarella has issued a stark warning about the risks Europe faces if it fails to establish a truly unified defense framework. Speaking at the Italy–Spain Dialogue Forum, he emphasized that ongoing hesitation in advancing European integration could lead to what he called “dramatic consequences” for the continent’s security.
Mattarella highlighted persistent delays in building a common defense structure within the European Union, urging member states to act with greater determination. He noted that in an increasingly volatile global environment—marked by complex geopolitical crises and heightened competition—Europe must demonstrate strategic vision and unity.
The Italian head of state also underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation between Italy and Spain, arguing that closer coordination between the two Mediterranean partners could help bolster Europe’s global standing.
Beyond security concerns, Mattarella insisted that enhancing Europe’s economic resilience and ensuring fair access to opportunities remain essential to the bloc’s long-term stability.
