Italian authorities have arrested seven individuals suspected of financing the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, according to police sources. Two additional suspects linked to the same investigation are currently abroad and are the subject of international arrest warrants.

The investigation also involves three organizations that publicly claimed to provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. Italian police allege that these associations were used as a front to channel funds toward Hamas and related entities operating in Gaza, the Palestinian territories, and Israel.

Investigators estimate that approximately seven million euros were transferred through these networks. Authorities stated that a significant portion of the money was directed to organizations allegedly controlled by or affiliated with Hamas, including financial support for families of individuals involved in terrorist attacks.

Police officials noted that while the declared objective of the associations was humanitarian assistance, more than 70 percent of the collected donations were allegedly diverted to support Hamas or closely linked groups.

Among those arrested is Mohammad Hannoun, identified by Italian media as the head of a Palestinian community association in Italy. The Interior Ministry described the operation as a major success, highlighting the dismantling of what it considers an international support structure connected to Hamas.
