The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) announced on Thursday that it has lifted the tsunami advisory that was issued following a major earthquake off the Russian Far East coast—one of the most powerful tremors recorded in the region in recent years.

“There are currently no coastal areas under tsunami warnings or advisories,” the JMA stated on its official website.

The warning had initially prompted concern for several regions along Japan’s eastern coastline, including Chiba Prefecture, where precautionary evacuations and safety measures had been considered. Authorities closely monitored wave activity, but no significant surges were reported.

The earthquake struck offshore near the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia’s Far East, registering a high magnitude and triggering immediate alerts across Pacific coastal nations. Japan, located on the seismically active "Ring of Fire", remains highly vigilant in monitoring offshore tremors and their potential impacts.

Although the advisory has now been lifted, the JMA has urged residents and local governments to remain cautious, especially near coastal areas, in case of aftershocks or unexpected sea level changes.
